Robert Henri, artist, changed his name from Cozad when his father shot a man in an argument over a bridge in Cozad, Nebraska a town that he was developing. (You can read this story in "Son of a Gamblin' Man, by Maria Sandoz). The family fled back east. Robert Henri is known not only as an artist, but as a teacher that was instrumental in the development of the American Art movement.
He is related this way: his father was John Jackson Cozad, son of Henry Cozad, son of Job Cozad. This Job Cozad was the brother of Jacob Cozad, father of Samuel, father of Andrew Jackson, father of George Alvin Cozad.... in short, he would be the Great Grandson (G2) of my Great Great Great Grandfather!
